News, reviews and extravagant unfounded gossip
It has been a while since I updated the Vox Pop. So much has happened in the interim including me becoming a Grandfather for the first time. (See photo of me and Zac Robert opposite) Sure makes me feel old!
As many of you know I am heading off to New Orleans as part of Brian Wise’s fantastic music tour that takes in Memphis, Clarksdale , the ‘awlins Jazz Fest and a trip down to Cajun country. WOW will be well represented with my travelling compatriots being Terry ‘Sluggah’ Smith, Phoebe and Mick Newington. We had a catch up meeting with Brian over at the Lomond and he gave us newbie’s a lot of info on what to expect. Many of the group are returning for their second, third, fourth and in Brian’s case his 16th visit to the festival. With that sort of recommendation we are assured of what many of the seasoned travellers tell me is a ‘life changing experience’. We leave on the 14th April. I am going to stay on for a couple of extra weeks and maybe get over to Austin. I will try and get a blog going which will be accessible from this web site. WOW will not stop during our sojourn so keep supporting the club.
It was fantastic to see the roll up for the recent protest re the Govt trying to kill off live music in Melbourne which ironically is recognised as the Music Capital of Australia. Hopefully common sense will prevail and the Govt will address the absurdity. I have to laugh at the ridiculous cynical showing of the liberal party in trying to get on the band wagon. Politicians never cease to amaze me at how pathetic they can be in trying to get votes.
The Lulo Reinhardt gig has been and gone. I know it was a Tuesday night and entry was $40 however it was an International 5 piece band and we had hoped for more punters. For those that came out they were stunned as I was by one of the most spectacular and diverse artists we have ever seen. Simply a stunning show and delightful people to deal with. Lulo was most gracious in speaking of our venue and is interested in coming back on a Sunday arvo sometime in the future. I am not sure what we have to do to get local Willy residents away from their reality TV experiences and get off their arses and support local world class music. Many thanks to Tony Bishop and Dave Padroth for setting up production for us. Also to Judy Harris and Mark Mitchell for putting their time in to having the room look fantastic with the candelabras on the tables.
