News, reviews and extravagant unfounded gossip

We are well into the year and I would have to say that the gigs to date have all been sensational in their own right. We have already been entertained by Ray Beadle, Vika Bull & the Hornets, Pete Cornelius, Kieran Kane with David Francey and Lucas Kane, the Mardi Gras Mambo night, the Backsliders and Chain. Let me know where else is the West you can see these sorts of quality acts up close and personal with full production and drinks that do not cost an arm and a leg.
Special comment needs to be made with regards to the Friday night Mardi Gras extravaganza. Kerri Simpson put together a show featuring the cream of Melbourne’s musicians. We had gumbo and dancing and guest performers and New Orleans music and costumes and prizes. I would have to say that this rates as one of the best gigs we have ever had in near on ten years. Everyone is still raving about the night and we will do it all again next year. Thanks to all the WOW committee who helped make such a memorable night.
As you know WOW is a Not for Profit organisation and by taking out a membership you are helping to keep us going, we appreciate your continued support. As a way of raising some funds for the WOW coffers we have an inaugural music trivia night coming up on Friday April 1st (we picked that date deliberately!) Give us a call on 0414784222 to register a table (from 4 to 6). It is a $10 donation and we are sure to have fun.
Keep checking the gig guide as changes and additions are continually being made to the upcoming roster.
One of our dear committee members is having some serious health problems at the moment and I know she wants to keep it low key. All the WOW committee and members are thinking of you and we hope for a speedy recovery and we look forward to seeing you soon.
My radio spot has been given the flick due to the main presenter Slinga’s illness and having to move to the bush so as he can get plenty of rest and recreation. I wish him well in his recovery.
Here is a pun from Mr Sam See “The fattest knight at King Arthur's round table was Sir Cumference. He acquired his size from too much pi”.

I found this interesting video to share with you. Haunted New Orleans takes you on a cemetery tour. A litlle way into the video there is a section about the most famous of Vodoo Queens Madame Laveau which shows a small section of a ritual. The lady sitting down and conducting the ritual is current Voodoo Priestess(Manbo) Sallie Anne Glassman who I had the pleasure of meeingt at her temple and who very kindly signed her book (Voodou Visions) for me.
