News, reviews and extravagant unfounded gossip
There has been lot happening behind the scenes and we have some very exciting news for the WOW members and punters. We are thrilled to announce that we have been asked to be part of the reformed and legendary Australian band the Dingoes national tour (Sunday August 8th 2PM). Brod and the band have been over in the Tuscon, Arizona recording a brand new album (Tracks) and from all the reports I am hearing it is sensational. This is going to be one great day and we urge you to get down early after all where else will you get to hear Way Out West than at Way Out West. As part of this tour another Australian singer/songwriter of the highest calibre Mr Mick Thomas will be opening for the Dingoes. Mick was due to perform with his band on Sunday 1st August but because of this tour we have cancelled that gig and will slot Mick in at a later date when he returns from his own upcoming German tour.
Some of you may have seen the recent article in the local Fairfax press where I was interviewed by journalist Lina Mesiti about WOW. Lina is a strong support of WOW and has been to a few gigs and we thank he very much for the chance to spread the word about our fabulous club. I have attached a copy of the article for any punters that may be interested.
I was also fortunate enough to have been invited by WYN FM (88.9FM) presenter Tony Slinger and co-presenter Chris Camov who have a show called Slinga’s Independant Country Radio which airs twice a week on a Monday and Wednesday from 9AM to 12 Noon. I was able to have a good chat about our recent trip to Memphis and New Orleans and also talk about WOW. I even got to spin some tracks. Slinga’s show is available on podcast Cyber Ears and if you are keen you can have a listen to me babbling on. Slinga and Chris have very kindly invited me to come in once a month to have a chat about what is happening at WOW. I will keep you posted on the next date.
We are very fortunate at the club to have some great people not only on our committee but also many others who just want to see the Club succeed. One of those is our resident (unpaid) photographer Bruce Davis who has taken some stunning shots for our wall of honour. Bruce has just put up another group of shots and they are of an outstanding quality. Next time you are down our way then make sure you have a look. (It puts the National Gallery to shame). Let me know if you are interested in purchasing any of them and we will organise it.
Terry and Tony have been working hard on getting our WOW CD released featuring bands who have graced out stage, we hope to have this available by Christmas.
Don’t forget to get involved with Way Out West on Facebook Jenni has done a great jon in getting us up and running
